Maybe you don't know your bard as well as you think.
What does he need to prepare for? It's an old crumbling keep full of witchers, not some king's palace.
We're trying to time it so we arrive just as the heavy snows start. A little later than I'd like, but it might help prevent anyone getting tossed out.
